The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a 1994 American slasher film directed by Kim Henkel, who co-wrote the screenplay with Tobe Hooper. It is the fourth installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, but it is not a sequel or a prequel to any of the previous films. The film stars Renée Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey in their early roles.
The film takes place in 1994, 22 years after the events of the first film. It follows four teenagers who are on a road trip to Dallas, but they become stranded in the small town of "Slaughter" after their van runs out of gas. They end up in a house where they are terrorized by Leatherface (played by McConaughey) and his family.
The film was not well-received by critics, with many criticizing the plot, acting, and violence. However, it has gained a cult following over the years. The film was followed by a direct sequel, Texas Chainsaw 3D, in 2013.
